How much is the UIF payout?

The amount of UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) payout you receive will depend on your previous salary and how long you have been contributing to the UIF. The basic calculation for UIF benefits is 38% of your previous salary, subject to a maximum amount.

The maximum amount of UIF payout is currently set at R17,712 per month (as of September 2021). This means that if your previous salary was above this amount, you will only receive the maximum payout of R17,712.

However, if your previous salary was below the maximum amount, you will receive 38% of your previous salary as your UIF payout. For example, if your previous salary was R10,000 per month, your UIF payout would be R3,800 per month.

It’s important to note that UIF benefits are only payable for a maximum of 12 months, and the amount of time you can claim depends on how long you have been contributing to the UIF. Additionally, UIF payouts are subject to certain deductions, such as tax and any outstanding debt you may have with the government.
